Featured Chosen Covergirl- Shante Grossett

What does it mean to be confident?

A confident person is self aware about their strengths and weaknesses and is also comfortable in their own skin. She is willing to put her best foot forward in the face of fear, opposition, and any lingering self-doubt.

She knows that she isn’t perfect and doesn’t strive for perfection, instead she strives to be more like Jesus each day. She is confident in God and not necessarily in herself because she knows that even though she can fail, God never will.

What comes to mind when you think of the word “joy”?

Joy is peace and happiness that doesn’t depend on circumstances. We can experience joy in hardship and difficult situations. I believe that true joy only comes from God and is far beyond any human understanding.

Can you identify the time in your life when you began to totally accept yourself and all of your flaws?

Yes, back in my junior year of college. I became fed up with trying to please everyone by changing or modifying parts of myself to fit their needs. I realized that if I wanted to thrive, I needed to accept myself for who I was. I don’t necessarily accept all my flaws – I accept the ones that I cannot change and work to improve the ones that I can.

Ultimately, I recognize that I’m growing and changing to become the best version of myself according to God’s word, instead of changing to confirm to someone else’s standards of who I am.

What do you admire most about yourself?

I admire my resilience most. I feel like I’ve been in the fire many times but I haven’t been burned. I’ve been strengthened in situations that would have completely weakened most people. Giving up is never an option for me and I choose to get back up again when I am knocked down.

Fill in the blank: I am….

I am chosen, redeemed, free, beautiful, accepted, and loved by the God of the universe who sent his only son to earth to rescue me and set me free from sin and death.

How has your faith contributed to who you are today?

My faith has contributed to who I am today big time. My faith is not just a part of who I am, it is who I am. I can’t imagine who I would be without God. I need him every moment of every day.

If you could identify a celebrity who you believe exemplifies a Chosen Covergirl, who would that be and why?

I don’t really follow celebrities too much but if I had to choose, I would say Hilary Duff. She seems pretty confident in who she is, what she believes, and isn’t afraid to be herself.

What would you tell your younger self or someone who has yet to discover her worth?

I would want her to know that she doesn’t have to earn love because she is already completely loved by God. I’d want her to know that she doesn’t have to strive for perfection or try to change who she is to become worthy, God already calls her worthy and he made her unique on purpose. I’d tell her to live her life to please God instead of living to please others. Other people may let her down but God never will.
